Dorner Prize
About
The RISD Museum is pleased to announce the winners of the 2018 Dorner Prize, on view February 15 through June 3. Draft Catalog, a publication and installation by Raina Wellman, Theia Flynn, and Eliza Chen, is presented in the Chace Lobby, while Kolam-Mysticism in Geometry, a work by Ramkumar Rajendran and Vishnu Vijithatma Uppalapati, is on view at the entrance to the Asian art galleries on the museum's sixth floor.
The Dorner Prize, a juried competition for Rhode Island School of Design degree candidates, was first established in 1995 as the Sitings exhibition. Jurors for the 2018 Dorner Prize were Dominic Molon, the RISD Museum's Richard Brown Baker Curator of Contemporary Art, and Heather Rowe, assistant professor of sculpture at RISD. Each year, two Dorner Prize winners receive cash prizes of $500 each and implementation funds up to $1000. The winning artists work with Museum staff during each phase of the development process and are celebrated with online promotion and public events. The Dorner Prize is named for the distinguished RISD Museum director Alexander Dorner (tenure 1938-1941), and is made possible by a generous anonymous gift.
