Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend Celebration

Free admission for all visitors over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19, 2025. This initiative, generously donated by Amica Mutual Insurance, invites the community to honor Dr. King’s legacy through art, culture, and conversation.
In addition to free admission, the RISD Museum will offer a variety of special programming throughout the weekend, designed to celebrate Dr. King’s vision of equality, justice, and community.
Highlights include:
Self-Guided Gallery Activities, 10 am-5 pm: Explore the collection with a curated tour exploring the museum’s collection through the lens of civil rights, equity, and inclusion.
DAWN: Dreaming a better world into being
11 am- 4 pm, Danforth Hall
This interactive space invites visitors to explore possible futures one can dream into existence through poetry, collage, journaling, and reading. Created by Becci Davis.
Extreme Affirmations
11 am- 4 pm, Common Room
Inspired by the powerful words of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Letter from Birmingham Jail, this workshop explores how love can transform and affirm. Together, we’ll create posters that assert self-confidence, honor identity, and strengthen our connections as a community. Facilitated by the RISD Art Circle Teens. Created in collaboration with artist Jess Brown.
