Teachers’ Lounge

Consider topics, issues and ideals related to teaching and learning with colleagues. Freely exchange and develop ideas in a relaxed and congenial environment. Join educators from across K-12, informal learning, and colleges and universities for aspirational conversations around topics of shared interest. Each Teachers' Lounge is facilitated by an invited guest who initiates the dialogue around relevant pedagogical issues.
Holly Ewald shares how Providence’s largest natural waterbody, Mashapaug Pond, and its history has inspired her work and curricula of teachers and artists of various disciplines for over 10 years. The Gorham Silver Manufacturing Co, built in 1980 on the shores of Mashapaug Pond, is part of the Mashapaug story. We will explore the Gorham exhibition and create connections between the design and manufacturing processes and place where the factory once stood. For registration questions, please contact mlefast@risd.edu.

Holly Ewald is a visual artist who blends studio work and community engagement. Since 1997 her socially engaged work has increasingly been with communities that inhabit and treasure under-recognized public spaces.  Since 2008 she has focused on the urban ponds of Providence, founding and directing the organization UPP Arts upparts.org. Ewald has received awards for her art and community work from the Rhode Island Council on the Humanities, the Tomaquag Museum, Save the Bay and the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission. She also has served as a Community Fellow at the John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities and Cultural Heritage since 2014.
