Join Alayka Seputra (RISD BFA 2026 Industrial Design) to learn about her art and design practice, which spans woodworking, painting, and writing, aiming to create physical manifestations of her psyche. Through her making process, she seeks to showcase the work of an Indonesian woman who has had the privilege of pursuing a Western Design education, and how she integrates her cultural awareness with her narrative to create with a continued emphasis on touch, labor, and curiosity.

Alayka Seputra has an extensive background in fine arts. Her earlier works were predominantly two-dimensional, illustrative, political oil paintings. In 2026, she is completing her education in Industrial Design at RISD, dedicating most of her time to three-dimensional works that embody the cultural scene she wishes to present to her audience. Her current thesis, “ASMARA,” is a collection produced to reclaim and reframe the label Made in Indonesia into Designed by an Indonesian.
