Wendy Ewald: Providence 2002
June 29 - October 20, 2002
Introduction
Throughout the first half of 2002, Ewald made weekly trips to Providence from her home in upstate New York in order to work with a group of remarkable young people at the Carl G. Lauro Memorial Elementary School. These 4th and 5th grade special-education students from the classroom of Michelle Silvia became Ewald's collaborators as they worked to document their struggles to master the reading and math lessons that made up their school days. The RISD Museum and the artist would like to express our appreciation for the welcoming atmosphere of the classroom. We are especially grateful to Ms. Silvia for her willingness to step outside the normal routine and approach these lessons with creativity and artfulness.
