Marks: In the upper left corner of the frame, a red painted accession number "55.152.1".At upper center of the frame, written upside down in black chalk, "BoxK [or H?] 5 #1R".To the right of this, also in black chalk, is written "#577" [577 is encircled].At the center right of the frame "13" is inscribed.At the upper left of the frame in black chalk, is written "#577" [577 is encircled] as in the upper portion of the frame.In the upper left corner of the panel, there is a red painted accession number "55.152.1".To the right of this there is a faint, illegible inscription which begins, "H [?]..."At the upper right of the panel, there is very faint black stencilling, "806 CM" [?].
Label: In the upper left corner of the frame, there is a white, rectangular tape label, on which can be seen entirely smudged, illegible ink markings.To the right of this there is a RISD Museum label with red trim, possibly cut down at top and bottom since there is red trim only on the two sides; on this label, among other information, is typed, "55.152.1" and "gift of Mr. Morris I. Kaplan".In the upper right corner, there is an upside down, partially peeled off, faded white label with blue and white trim, on which is printed, "NEW YORK 21, N.Y."
Seals: In the upper left corner of the panel, there is a red wax seal; it is a vertical rectangle with rounded corners within which there is a florid "BV" encircled with dotted trim, and above this a figure shaped like a knight chesspiece. Credit / Object Number
