Marking the Occasion

September 15 - December 3, 2000

Again, the subject matter of the horse probably identifies the print as a New Year’s greeting for the year of the horse, 1822. The second text from the left is a poem by Tsurunoya.

A Celebration of the New Year in Japanese Woodblock Prints

January 1 - March 1, 1990

This print exemplifies well the collaborative and literary foundation of the surimono print. The five verses and pictorial motif by Koin reflect the close relationship between the poets (who commissioned or composed poems for the work) and artist, and between text and image.
