Here Tsukioka Yoshitoshi contrasts the calm demeanor of the heroine, noblewoman Iga no Tsubone, with the frenzied spirit of a dead courtier, Sasaki Kiyotaka. Iga no Tsubone stretches out her hand to placate the ghost, who had continuously haunted and terrified the court since his death.
