Label: In the upper left corner of the frame, there is a piece of yellowing fabric tape on which is written the RISD Museum accession number "56.102".To the right of that there is another piece of fabric tape on which is typed "[illegible letter or number?] . 11. 56 A 1 / Weitzner". In the upper right corner of the frame, there is a ripped piece of newspaper on which is printed "...ng your s... / off giving your ... /...eeds ... the penalty to / baldness".At left center of the frame, there is a piece of masking tape on which are written three figures that have been crossed out; they are difficult to read but may be "15 A"[?]. At upper left on the stretcher, there is a white RISD Museum label with red trim.

Marks: In the upper left corner of the frame, the RISD Museum's accession number is written in red. In the upper center toward the right, "3 [?] 4 [ illegible number] 2 - 1 "[?] is written in white chalk. On the upper right side of the frame, "#16" is written in black ink. Below the "#16", " XVI" encircled is written, possibly in graphite, and struck through in black ink. In the lower right corner of the frame, there is a graphite "4" or "A" or a scribble. At left center, written in black and rotated 90 degrees to right is an encircled "19".In the upper left corner of the stretcher, the RISD Museum accession number "56.102" is written in red. In the upper center, "L R . 87" is written in blue. To the right of this, the RISD Museum accession number "56.102" is incised, upside down.Further to the right, in blue ink, "56 [number obscured by bracket] 2" is written where the canvas is visible on the stretcher. At upper right, "4461" is written in dark blue. To the right of that, the RISD Museum accession number is incised in black. Near the upper right corner of the stretcher, there is an ambiguous mark in pen. On the right side of the stretcher,"# 16" is written in brownish ink and underlined. Below that, " 1 [?] 9 [european style] 77" is written in black ink. Below that, "44..." is written in blue and scratched out.In the lower left corner of the stretcher, "S [?] I b ? " is written in red.
