Buhot’s “symphonic margins” featured evocative designs, a scene the artist likely saw in London. A bustling street view is surrounded by decorative images that fade in and out of recognition—an effect enhanced by the artist’s practice of wiping the ink on his plates by hand to achieve painterly effects.
