Assembly
About
Two modern dance performances by Fusionworks connect paintings and movement in the galleries. Dancers weave a ritualistic, hypnotic dance on the roles of women in He(I)r, choreographed by Jenny Gerena, with a sensuous contemporary score. A structured improvisation, Picture This, has dancers responding to work on view and the gallery space through movement.

Fusionworks Dance Company has an exciting history spanning more than twenty-nine years as Rhode Island's only modern dance repertory company. Known for their gutsy and striking interpretations of works from an impressive line-up of contemporary choreographers, including Artistic Director Deb Meunier.
Artists working in a variety of disciplines and mediums offer interventions in response to European paintings on view in Intermission in this Assembly series. Like the informal presentation of paintings, these performances offer opportunities for chance encounters and unintentional juxtapositions.
