Stories Objects Can Tell
About
In this 7-week introductory art history course we’ll spend time with objects from different cultures, times and perspectives while considering their social contexts. Using guided observation, relevant information and questions, we’ll develop knowledge, interest and comfort approaching and contextualizing art. Participants with different types of interests and experiences are welcome.

This course is led by Mariani Lefas-Tetenes, Director of School and Teacher Programs at the RISD Museum. Mariani manages K-12 school visits, teacher professional development workshops and resources for students and teachers. She previously taught art history at the City University of New York (Kingsborough Community College) and worked at The Jewish Museum, the Grey Art Gallery at New York University, and The New-York Historical Society. Mariani has a BA from Indiana University in Art History and Philosophy, an MA in Art History and Criticism from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and has worked towards a PhD in Art History at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.

Registration required. Fee: $50 for teachers, college and graduate students, seniors and museum members; $75 for all other adults. Professional Development credit is available.
