Summer Institute
About
Consider how image, color, shape, symbol, type, and text communicate meaning through everyday platforms such as posters, books, magazines and web-based programs. The institute will focus on analyzing and integrating examples of visual culture into classroom learning and teaching. Educators across disciplines and grade levels will gain a foundation in the history of design and the design process through the examples of communication from hieroglyphics to Helvetica, stone tablets to print-on-demand posters. Key to the institute will be a focus on how educators can creatively support their students' communication skills to interpret and produce visual culture, as well as how educators can creatively expand their own approaches around documentation of their own and their students' experiences. Discussion and hands-on investigations will simultaneously develop the thinking skills and habits of mind that are central to educators' different subject areas. Please contact Alexandra Poterack at 401 454 6531 with any questions.
