Color Course

Color has always been central to art. Ancient marble sculpture was once colorfully painted, while factors of labor and expense played a major role in pigments for Medieval painting. Exploration of color for its aesthetic, religious, political, economic, and racial symbolism reveal insight into technical skill and and generates provocative connections between contemporary life and the past. Guided sessions offer close examination and behind-the-scene access to objects, with a focus on color, to expand and develop visual abilities. Intimate discussions, facilitated by museum educator Horace Ballard, deepen understanding and proficiency in the interpretation of objects. Short readings and resources provided at the conclusion of each session.
