Double Take
About
From Egyptian Blue to Indigo and Cobalt, from earthly colors to synthetic pigments and manufactured dyes, color is essential to art and design. In Double Takes, join specialists from various fields as they offer differing views on objects with a focus on the color blue. Conversations stimulate thoughts about social context, artistic interpretation, and ever-evolving meanings.
Cobalt/Glaze
Cobalt is one of the most potent colorants and produces a stable blue when added to glazes. Ceramicist Frank Bosco, senior critic in RISD's Ceramics Department, and Elizabeth Williams, curator of decorative arts and design consider the production of a pitcher made in China for export in 1800.
