Double Take
About
From Egyptian Blue to Indigo and Cobalt, from earthly colors to synthetic pigments and manufactured dyes, color is essential to art and design. In Double Takes, join specialists from various fields as they offer differing views on objects with a focus on the color blue. Conversations stimulate thoughts about social context, artistic interpretation, and ever-evolving meanings.
Indigo/Textile
Indigo comes from a plant of the same name and is obtained through a lengthy process. Curator of costume and textiles, Kate Irvin, along with textile designer and professor in RISD's Textiles Department, Anais Missakian, discuss indigo's distinctive history and use in relation to this object, chosen from the costume & textiles collection specifically for this conversation.
