Teachers' Lounge

Consider topics, issues and ideals related to teaching and learning with colleagues. Freely exchange and develop ideas in a relaxed and congenial environment. Join educators from across K-12, informal learning, and colleges and universities for aspirational conversations around topics of shared interest. Each Teachers' Lounge is facilitated by an invited guest who initiates the dialogue around relevant pedagogical issues.
This Teachers’ Lounge focuses on exploring meaningful ways to engage students of all ages with artwork. Grounded in the notion that interactive museum experiences are especially valuable, this experience will help educators consider various ways that their students can interact with and learn about artworks on view in museum spaces. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about well-established methods of talking about artwork designed by scholars and researchers, experience a variety of alternative embodied approaches, as well as discuss their own ideas to best suit the needs of their students and curriculum. Refreshments included.
This Teachers' Lounge is co-facilitated by Shana Cinquemani and MA Candidates from RISD's Teaching + Learning in Art and Design Program.

Shana Cinquemani is an assistant professor in the Teaching + Learning in Art + Design program at RISD. She has worked as an art museum educator, preschool teaching assistant and elementary/middle school art teacher. Her research interests are grounded in theories of early childhood art education, the conceptualization of children’s art as a meaningful socio-cultural practice, connections between art and play, curriculum inquiry and theory, ethical research practices with children, and relationships between children and adults in the art classroom space. Cinquemani has published her research in The Journal of Art Education, Bank Street College of Education’s Occasional Papers and The Journal of Visual Inquiry and has a chapter in the edited text Communities of Practice: Art, Play, and Aesthetics in Early Childhood. She is currently working on a publication related to ethical practice in teaching and research with young children. https://www.risd.edu/people/shana-cinquemani/
