About
2018 Artist Fellow Becci Davis presents a screening of Whose Name Was Writ in Water. This video is based on the notion that nature bears witness to history and holds the secrets to lost narratives of the past. The artist interrogates this history through an imagined conversation with her enslaved 4th great-grandmother. Water serves as the device that connects them through time and space. By questioning the past, the artist attempts to navigate the present through the exploration of landscapes, examination of old family snapshots, original and appropriated poetry, performance, and photography.
